BYMREBORN

For returning players

What happened to Backyard Monsters?

Backyard Monsters was the 2010 strategy game many players remember from Facebook: build a yard, hatch an army and defend it from other monsters. Reborn gives that experience a community-run home.

The game people remember

The original Backyard Monsters was developed by KIXEYE and built around persistent yards, resource gathering, defensive buildings and monster battles. Its Flash-based browser experience made it familiar to a generation of Facebook players.

Looking up the old game today can lead to historical pages, old videos and guides that no longer explain how to start playing. Those pages describe the original service, not necessarily a working way to play now.

What changed with Flash?

Adobe ended support for Flash Player on December 31, 2020, and blocked Flash content from running in its player beginning January 12, 2021. Modern mainstream browsers no longer provide the old Flash plug-in experience.

That explains why an old browser link or a guide telling you to enable Flash is not a reliable way back into the game. It does not establish when each original game service closed: browser support and the operation of a game's servers are separate things.

What is Backyard Monsters Reborn?

Backyard Monsters Reborn is an independent preservation and revival project. It restores the classic yard-building and monster-battling experience using community-run server systems and a Windows launcher.

Reborn is not an official KIXEYE relaunch and is not affiliated with or endorsed by KIXEYE. It has its own accounts, saved progress, updates and support community. Work on restoring and improving the game continues.

What Reborn restores, and what it does not

A working revival needs more than an old game file. The launcher delivers the game and its runtime, while Reborn's servers provide account access and saved yards. That is why installing a browser plug-in or opening an old Facebook link is not the current setup process.

Reborn uses separate accounts and a separate save system. It is not connected to the original Facebook account database, and installing it does not import an old yard. Features are still being restored and improved; the current game is not a promise that every historical event or feature is available.

The supported route today is the Windows launcher. Follow the illustrated setup guide for installation, game updates and file repair.

Can I play it now?

Yes. The Reborn Windows launcher is available from this website. Playing is free, with optional Shiny purchases and D.A.V.E. Club membership.

Create a Reborn account, then download the launcher. It manages the game files and updates without requiring a browser Flash plug-in.

What about my old yard?

Reborn uses its own save system. An old official-service or Facebook account is not the same as a Reborn account, and your old yard will not appear simply by installing the launcher. Start with a Reborn account and follow the current setup instructions.
